Types of Orthodontic Treatments
If you have crooked teeth, you need to know that there are many options available for getting them straightened. Come and see Dr. Talib Salim Ali and the staff at Leesburg Family Dental to discuss how you can get straighter teeth!
ClearCorrect™ uses a system of clear, removable aligners. These aligners are almost invisible. Each aligner moves your teeth slightly, a bit at a time, until they are finally in the desired position and you have straight teeth.
You will need to wear the aligners as much as possible, taking them out only to eat and care for your teeth. You will return to Leesburg Family Dental periodically so Dr. Ali can check on your progress, and so he can give you your new phase of aligners. Each phase will move your teeth a little more until your teeth are straight and beautiful!
Invisalign® is a set of nearly invisible mouthpieces that are easily removable. Each mouthpiece is a little different than the last, made to move teeth gradually and gently until they are straight.
Typically, patients wear Invisalign® mouthpieces for 10 to 18 months. You’ll wear each aligner for two weeks and then move on to the next one. You should wear your Invisalign® mouthpiece for about 22 hours a day for best results.
Many patients want Invisalign® because they are made of a clear plastic. It will be hard for anyone to tell you are wearing them! Another advantage is that they are removable. You can take it out when you need to brush and floss, while eating or when there is a special occasion.
If you have crooked teeth, you may have spent a lot of time looking into the different options available for fixing them. And you may have decided against traditional braces because most patients have to wear them for years.
If this sounds like you, FastBraces® may just be the solution! As the name suggests, FastBraces® do the work of traditional braces but in a lot less time. Some FastBraces® patients complete treatment in three months!
Traditional braces move teeth one part at a time. During the first part of treatment, the braces move the root into the desired position, and then during the second part of treatment they move the crowns to align with the roots. FastBraces® move both the root and the crown of the tooth at the same time.
Why should I bother taking care of my crooked teeth?
Crooked teeth can affect a person’s self-esteem, making them self-conscious and reluctant to smile. Nevertheless, you may have decided that you can live with crooked teeth. But having crooked teeth isn’t just a matter of aesthetics. Crooked teeth can affect your oral health as well.
Crooked teeth can affect your bite, which can interfere with proper chewing and cause jaw pain. Crooked teeth or teeth that are too close together can make it hard to keep teeth clean, which can mean an increased risk of tooth decay, cavities and gingivitis.
